NM Museum Selling O'Keeffe Painting

By KRWG News

Santa Fe – A Georgia O'Keeffe painting from the New Mexico museum that's named after her is going on the auction block in New York City.

"Canna Red and Orange" is estimated to bring $1.2 million to $1.8 million at Christie's on Wednesday.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe is selling the 1926 oil depicting a colorful canna lily. It was originally owned by the Downtown Gallery in New York. In 1960, it was sold into a private collection and donated to the museum in 1997.

The museum says the proceeds will allow it to acquire works important to it holdings.

O'Keeffe permanently moved to New Mexico from New York in 1949. She was married to photographer Alfred Stieglitz. She died in 1986.
