NM Police Rescue Campers

State police are in the mountains of northern New Mexico rescuing a dozen campers who sent a distress call in the middle of the night.

Police spokesman Emmanuel Gutierrez says dispatchers got signals from a GPS system about 1 a.m. indicating a group of 10 adults and two kids were lost in the mountains north of Questa. The signal indicated a 28-year-old woman in the group was suffering hypothermia.

Gutierrez says the rescuers have been on the mountain all day. Late Thursday morning he says, they located and brought out the woman and a boy with a broken ankle. The others have been located and crews were trying to get to them Thursday afternoon.

Gutierrez says the campers were staying at the Cabresto Lake campground.
