NM Prosecutor Resigns After Arrest

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The Bernalillo County District Attorney's Office says a prosecutor has resigned following a weekend run-in with deputies.

KOB-TV reports Alisha Maestas resigned Monday. She says she's innocent and that she stepped down to maintain the integrity of the district attorney's office.

Maestas was the head of the unit that handles domestic violence cases.

She was riding in a car that was pulled over Saturday. As deputies conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, Maestas allegedly ignored orders to stay in the car. She's also accused of lunging toward a deputy.

Deputies say they did not give Maestas a sobriety test, but they believe she had been drinking.

She was arrested for assault against an officer. She says she did not injure or hurt any officer during the incident.
