NM Seeks Help In Stopping Illegal Tire Dumping

By KRWG News

New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) State environment officials say the illegal dumping of scrap tires is on the rise in New Mexico and they want the public's help to stop the practice.

The Environment Department's Solid Waste Bureau says recent instances of tire dumping have occurred on both private and public lands.

Tire dumps have been spotted on state land near Wagon Mound, near the Rio Puerco in Bernalillo County and on private property near Grants.

State laws have been enacted in an effort to curb illegal dumping and to provide straightforward procedures for businesses, but officials say not everyone is abiding by the law.

The department is calling on people to contact local authorities or file a complaint with the department if they suspect tires or tire scraps are being illegally dumped.
