N.M. Utility Confident On Anticipated U.S. Carbon Rule

New Mexico's largest electricity provider says it thinks it'll be prepared to meet new carbon standards in an anticipated new federal rule.

According to the Santa Few New Mexican, Public Service Co. of New Mexico spokeswoman Valerie Smith voiced confidence about the utility's ability to comply with the anticipated rule to limit carbon emissions from existing coal-fired power plants.

The company already is required to cut emissions from the San Juan Generating Station near Farmington plant to reduce haze under existing federal regulations.

Smith told the New Mexican that the company's assessment of the anticipated rule is based on objectives cited last year by President Barack Obama.
