New Mexico State University Director of Golf Daniel Koesters is at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma, this week to compete in the U.S. Senior Open golf tournament.
“The U.S. Golf Association has qualifying tournaments in each state. I qualified as an alternate for New Mexico, and got a last minute call to participate due to a withdrawal,” Koesters said. “It’s a pretty neat deal.”
The first round of play begins at 6:15 a.m. (MDT), Thursday, July 10, and will be broadcast on ESPN2. Second round play starts at 6:15 a.m. (MDT) Friday, and also is available on ESPN2. Third and fourth round play on Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast on NBC.
“It’s quite a privilege to do something like this, to participate with a lot of tour of players on the Senior PGA Tour. I’m playing with a bunch of people I’ve watched for years,” Koesters said.
Koesters, originally from Alamogordo, New Mexico, played a practice round with two brothers he grew up with there, Brad Bryant, a University of New Mexico alumnus, and Bart Bryant, an NMSU alumnus.
“Being here is a dream come true. I would like to play well enough to have a real chance at making the cut,” Koesters said.
