NMSU International Club To Host Fashion And Talent Show Saturday

Students from New Mexico State University’s International Club will be showing off their talents Saturday during the club’s Fashion and Talent Show.

The show will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday April 18 at the Farmers and Crafts Market of Las Cruces, on Main Street near the Branigan Cultural Center in Downtown Las Cruces.

The fashion and talent show will feature nine performances from students all over the world, including Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Ecuador. Donations will be accepted at the event and will be used towards the club’s activities next semester. Activities include a tour of the city for new international students.

The club’s president, Monica Manzur, said the club helps students from other countries find their way around campus and Las Cruces, and gives them opportunities to meet new people and find a home away from home.

“They’re coming into an entirely different country not knowing anything or anybody,” Manzur said. “We show them how to use the bus system, where the post office is and where restaurants are. At our events, they come and mingle with each other so they can feel like they’re amongst family.”

Manzur said club members, who represent nearly 40 countries, are always eager to show examples of their culture and tell people about where they come from.

“Every body is proud of their country. Whenever anybody has a chance to show their culture, they’re ready to tell you about their country,” Manzur said. “I’ve been exposed to so many different countries. It’s been a wonderful experience.”
