One Arrested, One Wanted In Las Cruces Area Shooting Investigation

Wanted: Eddie Carrillo

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives have identified two Las Cruces men who are accused of firing rounds at house and two vehicles after they were reportedly asked to leave a party last month. One man was arrested Thursday afternoon.

According to court documents, Eddie Carrillo, 24, and Juni Talamantes, 27, were part of a large gathering of people celebrating at a home in the 5700 block of Tanglewood Place in the village of Doña Ana on Friday, Aug. 28.

The party went into the early morning hours of Aug. 29 and ended when sheriff’s deputies were called to the residence after neighbors called 911 to report hearing gunfire. Detectives later discovered multiple bullet holes in the home and also in two parked cars that were at the residence.

Detectives identified nine people who were allegedly inside the home when the shots were fired, including a two-month-old infant. Witnesses who were at the party that night say both Carrillo and Talamantes became upset after they returned to the house to get a cell phone and were again told to leave.

Warrants for the arrests of Carrillo and Talamantes were issued Wednesday. Both men are charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling, conspiracy and child abuse. Talamantes has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Talamantes was taken into custody Thursday afternoon by members of the Doña Ana County Special Response Team.  He has been transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.

Carrillo, who remains at large, is also wanted on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
