Otero County Man Arrested On Attempted Murder Charge

A man who is accused of stabbing another man during an early-morning altercation in Chaparral has been arrested.

Rodger Allan Stefani, 46, was arrested by Otero County Sheriff’s deputies on a warrant lateThursday afternoon. Officials expect him to be extradited back to Doña Ana County.

During the course of the investigation, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives learned the 33-year-old victim and his girlfriend were asleep when Stefani went to their home on Autumn Sage Road just before 5 a.m. Thursday.

The victim said he let Stefani inside his home and as he was leaving, Stefani picked up a blow torch and allegedly struck the victim with it. He told detectives that he called to his girlfriend for help, who then told detectives she saw Stefani pull a knife out of his pocket which he allegedly used to stab her boyfriend. The witness said she also heard Stefani tell the victim, “I’m going to kill you.”

The victim received multiple stab wounds to his left leg, his left bicep and the right side of his face.

Stefani is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder. A judge Thursday set his bond at $250,000 cash, but because Stefani is currently on probation and parole, the State of New Mexico Corrections Department Probation and Parole Division had issued a no bond warrant for his arrest.

The victim was transported to an El Paso-area hospital. His wounds were described as non life-threatening.
