PBS Kids to ‘take over’ NMSU’s KRWG studios

New Mexico State University’s KRWG television station will officially launch the PBS Kids 24/7 channel with a public open house Saturday, June 17.

Clifford, Cat In The Hat and Super Why! will greet families during the open house to celebrate the airing of the 24/7 PBS Kids Channel on Channel 22.3.

Guests will be treated to storytelling, drawing tables and a red carpet experience with the stars of the Kids Channel from 9-11 a.m. in the Milton Hall facilities on the NMSU campus.

Daily, Sesame Street asks, “Do you know the way to Sesame Street?” Through the magic of a green screen, the event will visually place visitors on that historic street.

Coordinating the event is KRWG’s Jacquie Porter.

“Our goal is to not only provide a fun community event, but to introduce parents and children to the wide variety of free early childhood learning tools available from PBS and KRWG,” Porter said.

In addition to the over-the-air availability, the channel is streamed at krwg.org and may be seen on many cable systems. Those include Comcast Las Cruces 396, Comcast Silver City 400 and Spectrum El Paso on Channel 1272. Each program is designed to promote literacy, health and STEM education.
