A new poll shows more likely voters in Albuquerque support proposed new restrictions on abortions than oppose them.
A poll commissioned by the Albuquerque Journal shows that the measure had support from 54 percent of those surveyed while 39 percent were opposed. The remaining 7 percent took conditional positions, were undecided or wouldn't say.
The measure's provisions include a ban on most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Supporters submitted more than 12,000 petition signatures of registered voters to put the measure on a ballot. The City Council hasn't yet scheduled a vote.
The survey done by Albuquerque-based Research and Polling Inc. had a margin of error of approximately 5 percentage points. The telephone survey of 402 likely voters was conducted Sept. 3-5.
