Reward Offered for Info Leading to Arrest in Violent Las Cruces Shoplifting Escape

Las Cruces Police have identified and are looking for the man suspected of shoplifting from Target in December, and using a stun gun and knife to threaten store employees during his escape.

A warrant has been obtained for the arrest of Dominique (or “Dominic”) Zuniga, 28, of the 2900 block of Missouri Ave., who is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count each of shoplifting and battery.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps lead police to Zuniga’s arrest.

Investigators learned that at around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10, loss prevention personnel at Target confronted a man suspected of shoplifting electronics from the store. As loss prevention approached the suspect, the man pulled out a contact stun gun and deployed it on one of the security officers.

The two men engaged in a scuffle near the front of the store before the suspect drew a knife and used it to threaten the Target employee and a colleague who came to assist. The two Target employees were not seriously injured.

A Las Cruces Police officer was in the vicinity and saw the suspect running from the store. The officer tried to make contact with the suspect, but the man got into a silver Toyota Camry and fled the parking lot.

The property stolen from Target included earphones, a GoPro camera and a few compact discs. The value of stolen items was estimated at around $475. Zuniga is also suspected of other shoplifting incidents and using a stun gun to threaten loss prevention employees at another retail store.

Zuniga is Hispanic, 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighs approximately 170 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information that helps lead police to Zuniga is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip by text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to provide a name to collect a reward.
