Albuquerque, New Mexico – ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRWG) Sandia National Laboratories has been awarded $4 million for wind turbine research.
The money is part of a $43 million package of projects the Department of Energy is funding over the next five years to speed technical innovations, lower costs and shorten the timeline for deploying offshore wind energy systems.
Sandia will get $4.1 million to design Vertical Axis Wind Turbines, which could reduce the cost of offshore wind energy generation. DOE says the project will address technical challenges and provide the foundation for a cost-competitive offshore wind industry in the United States. '
The funding is subject to Congressional approval.
