Saturday Energy Forum

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A public forum on the future of energy is scheduled for this Saturday in Las Cruces.

The forum is being sponsored by the Temple Beth El Social Action Committee.

It will be held Saturday at 12:45 p.m. in the Temple Sanctuary at 3980 Sonoma Springs Avenue.

A panel of five experts .including two professors from New Mexico State University ..will talk about environmental and economic impacts of future energy challenges.

The forum comes following a Washington hearing by Senator Jeff Bingaman on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Dara Parker of Senator Bingaman's office is scheduled to address federal energy policy during the Saturday forum.

Decisions on federal policy could potentially have a major impact in New Mexico.

The National Mining Association says ..the state gets about three quarters of its electric power from coal-fired plants.

And it says .New Mexico produced more than 25 million short tons of coal in 2008 ..responsible for thousands of jobs.

Once again .Saturday's forum starts at 12:45 p.m. in the Temple Sanctuary at 3980 Sonoma Springs Avenue.
