Sauber: We'll Be Watching Votes On The Republican Tax Plan

Rep. Steve Pearce (R) New Mexico

Commentary: With Congressman Pearce running for Governor of New Mexico, our eyes will be on him as he votes on the proposed tax overhaul bill. As a staunch conservative he has continually spoken out against raising the deficit, but by all accounts we know this new tax bill will do just that. likely, by Trillions. Unfortunately, America will not be “Made Great Again” by cutting taxes even further on the Billionaires who haven’t been paying their fair share.

Taxes have been framed as “burdensome”, but we should examine that concept further. Is it a burden or security to have someone answer a 911 call for police or a fire? Is it a burden to have  interstate freeways and highways to take when we go on vacation or visit distant family? Is it a burden to have social security and medicare when we get older? Is it a burden to businesses that profit from having an educated workforce, roads to transport their goods, police and fire protection? I don’t think so.

This tax plan needs to tax those who can afford it, eliminate  overseas tax evasion by wealthy corporations, and tax wall street trading. If all of that happens and Congressman Pearce votes for it, I promise to give him my vote.
