State Office Won't Fine Ex-Official Over Campaign Spending

State officials are not imposing any fine against a former New Mexico utility regulator who had reported paying himself thousands of dollars from his public campaign funding.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the Secretary of State's Office this month wrote that it was closing its file on former Public Regulation Commissioner Ben Hall.

The office said that was because Hall had submitted amended reports that didn't show any wages or salary paid to him.

Hall had previously reported to the office that he paid himself thousands of dollars for campaign work. However, Hall later said there was a misunderstanding and that he actually received only reimbursements for expenses.

The Ruidoso Republican lost his re-election campaign last year.
