Stimulus Funds Awarded To Levee Projects

Las Cruces – Federal stimulus funds will pay for three major construction projects in the region.

The United States Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission has awarded three construction contracts for rehabilitation of Rio Grande levees.

A $26.1 million dollar contract was awarded to Lakeshore Engineering Services of Detroit, Michigan, for 32 miles of levee improvements in Dona Ana County.

$18.8 million was awarded to Milestone Excavation of Dolores, Colorado, for 29 miles of levee improvements from Vado Bridge to Borderland Bridge.

Milestone also received a $5.5 million dollar contract for levee improvements near Hatch .that work will cover 14 miles of levee on the West side of the Rio Grande.

For all three contracts, construction is expected to be complete by early next year.
