Suit Filed Over Arrest Of NM Legislator's Father

A lawsuit filed by the 70-year-old father of state Rep. Carl Trujillo contends he was pulled over and mistreated by Pojoaque Pueblo tribal officers because of politics.

Luciano Trujillo's suit filed in state District Court names current and former Santa County officials as defendants on grounds that the county jointly commissioned tribal officers.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Luciano Trujillo was pulled over for no valid reason on March 21, 2011 after he and his son attended a ward election.

The suit alleges tribal officers were told to stop the Trujillos' vehicles.

Luciano Trujillo was arrested but charges of DWI and other offenses were later dismissed.

Pueblo Gov. George Rivera says the incident was a routine traffic stop until Luciano Trujillo was abusive toward the officer.
