Sunspot Recognized As The Top Solar Contractor In The Region

LAS CRUCES, NM — Sunspot Solar Energy reports the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s (EMNRD) Energy Conservation and Management Division recently announced the top solar energy contractors in the state, and Las Cruces-based Sunspot Solar Energy has been recognized as the top contractor in Doña Ana County and Southern New Mexico.

Sunspot says in 2015, Sunspot installed 56% of the systems with the next closest company at 35%.

“People throughout the region have trusted Sunspot to design and install their solar energy systems for years now and because of that we’ve saved people lots of money on both their systems and their electric bills,” said Mellow Honek of Sunspot Solar Energy. “We take a lot of pride in being the top solar company but also in being a part of the community.”

The state’s Energy Conservation and Management Division is responsible for processing New Mexico’s tax credits for homeowners that convert to solar energy. Currently, New Mexico offers a 10 percent solar tax credit, which expires this year. However, demand for solar energy means that the state’s tax credit could run out of funds by summer.

“Combined with Federal tax credits, homeowners can still get a total of 40 percent tax credits while the funds last,” explains Janet Honek of Sunspot Solar Energy. “The Federal credit will continue, but the state’s money will probably run out sometime this summer.”

Sunspot says it has installed nearly 1,000 systems throughout the area.
