Suspect In 2006 New Mexico Murder Captured

A man wanted for the 2006 murder of an El Paso woman in Chaparral has been captured in Mexico.

New Mexico Attorney General Gary King announced Thursday that Eduardo Estrada Garcia recently was arrested in Baja California, Mexico after local authorities received a tip.

Estrada Garcia has long been a suspect in the murder of 31-year-old Emely Corina Howard-Ianni, whose body was found near N.M. Highway 213 in November 2006.

A Dona Ana County grand jury later indicted him on an open count of murder. He was one of the state's most-wanted fugitives by the New Mexico district of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Officials say it could take at least two months before arrangements can be finalized for his extradition.

It was not known if he had an attorney.
