Suspect In Alleged Sexual Assault Case Arrested In Navajo

A man sought in a sexual assault case in New Mexico's San Juan County has been arrested in the community of Navajo.

County Sheriff's deputies say 26-year-old Peter Andrew Ernst was taken into custody Thursday.

Ernst was wanted on warrants for criminal sexual penetration and failure to register as a sex offender.

He's being held on a $1.1 million cash-only bond in the county Detention Center, where he awaits arraignment.

Sheriff's officials say Ernst allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in Aztec late last month, then quit his job and fled to Navajo.

They say Ernst is a registered sex offender in Arizona's Maricopa County, but he didn't notify Arizona of his move to New Mexico last year or register as a sex offender with the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.
