Authorities say a 23-year-old man is jailed in Albuquerque in the theft of an SUV and the abduction of a 9-month-old girl who was inside the vehicle.
Bernalillo County jail records indicate Leighraughnzo Benally was booked Tuesday morning on suspicion of child abuse, kidnapping and unlawful taking of a vehicle.
The Sheriff's Department says Benally was arrested late Monday night. The SUV with girl still inside was found earlier Monday evening.
The vehicle was stolen early Monday afternoon. prompting the issuance of an Amber Alert.
Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputy Felicia Romero says Benally is an acquaintance of the baby's mother and he allegedly took the SUV knowing the girl was in the vehicle.
It's not immediately clear whether Benally has an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
