Suspect In Metal Theft Sought By Las Cruces Police

  Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a man suspected of stealing scrap metal and vehicle parts in Chaparral, N.M.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s investigators have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Lorenzo Cano, 20, who is charged with residential burglary.

On Dec. 20, 2013, a Dona Ana County deputy observed a group of men standing near a pickup loaded with scrap metal and various vehicle parts. The deputy learned that the metal and parts did not belong to any of the men.

Further investigation revealed that Cano stole the metal after climbing a chain link fence into a neighboring property. Investigators believe Cano intended to sell the scrap metal at a recycling plant.

Cano’s whereabouts are unknown at this time.
