Suspect Stable After Being Shot By New Mexico State Police

New Mexico State Police say a suspect who previously escaped arrest was shot and wounded by authorities after he allegedly pinned an officer with a vehicle.

Twenty-six-year-old Agustine Fransisco Carrillo-Ortiz was in stable condition Saturday at an Albuquerque hospital.

Officers located him in Valencia County on Thursday afternoon.

They say Carrillo-Ortiz put his vehicle in reverse as officers approached him.

He crashed into the passenger side of a police vehicle, trapping an officer between two cars.

That is when three officers fired their weapons.

Police say the suspect, who suffered gunshot wounds, fled in the vehicle but was found a short time later.

One officer was treated for upper body injuries.

State Police had tried to arrest Carrillo-Ortiz, a Mexican national, in July for possession of a stolen vehicle.
