The Las Cruces Police SWAT team is attempting to make contact with a man who is believed to be armed with a firearm and barricaded inside a residence on Tornillo St.
Police and Las Cruces Public School officials have placed the nearby Booker T. Washington Elementary School on temporary lockdown until the matter is resolved.
Police are also asking area residents to remain in their homes and officers are encouraging motorists to refrain from traveling in the area of Tornillo Street nearVillamora Avenue and Juniper Avenue.
