Teacher Of The Year

By KRWG News

Alamogordo – An Alamogordo teacher is the 2011 New Mexico Teacher of the Year.

The New Mexico Public Education Commission is to honor Diana Fesmire at its meeting Friday in Santa Fe.

State Education Secretary Susanna Murphy announced Fesmire's selection Thursday.

Fesmire began teaching in 1987 and taught at Alamogordo's Sierra Elementary School from 1996 to earlier this year. She now teaches sixth-grade math at Chaparral Middle School.

Her former supervisor, retired principal Paul Sena, says her classroom is a model learning environment that reflects the passion and excitement for learning she shares with her students each day.

Fesmire was New Mexico's recipient of the 2008 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math Teaching.
