Deming – A teenager from Palomas, Mexico, is recovering after a brutal attack.
Authorities say 17-year-old Aiven Daniel Lorenzo Madrid was transported to an El Paso, Texas, hospital after he was found shot, beaten, possibly stabbed and then doused with diesel fuel and set on fire last Saturday in southern New Mexico.
Paramedic Danny Macias told investigators that Madrid had a gunshot wound that had shattered his right ankle, had either a gunshot or stab wound in his groin and his left ankle was badly burned.
The Luna County Sheriff's Office said several unknown persons gathered at the Columbus Port of Entry and on rooftops on the Mexican side of the border to watch as paramedics treated Madrid.
