Texas Warns Of Calls From Fake Caseworkers

State officials are warning Texas Health and Human Services clients of calls being made by fake caseworkers seeking personal information.

In a statement Thursday, the department's Office of Inspector General says the callers identify themselves as Health and Human Services Commission employees. The inspector general warns department clients not to provide any information, such as Medicaid or Social Security numbers since legitimate department representatives never ask for such information over the telephone. The inspector general says the department only calls clients who submit an application for benefits.

To verify a Health and Human Services Commission appointment, the inspector general advises clients to call 211, choose a language and select option 2. Any suspected fraud attempts should be reported the inspector general at 800-436-6184 or local law enforcement.
