On Tuesday…candidates in the Las Cruces municipal election will submit voter signatures to get on the ballot.
And a third candidate has announced in the race for Mayor.
Las Cruces businesswoman Gina Montoya Ortega announced her candidacy for Mayor of New Mexico’s second-largest city. Montoya Ortega and her husband Ray own and operate La Fiesta Bakery in Las Cruces. She says she’s running on the point that she is not a career politician, but a member of the community who has experienced the “hard knocks of life”. She says she has been a local advocate for small businesses and a strong proponent for public safety.
Montoya Ortega faces Las Cruces city councilor Miguel Silva, incumbent Mayor Ken Miyagishima, and any other candidates who file Tuesday.
The city clerk must verify the voter signatures submitted Tuesday and is expected to announce the final list of candidates for city council, Mayor, and municipal judge next week.
