Tribal Youth Summit Coming To Santa Fe

By KRWG News

Santa Fe – Young men and women from American Indian communities across the country will be in Santa Fe next week for the National Intertribal Youth Summit.

The leadership conference will feature officials from the White House, the Department of Justice and other agencies. Pro golfer Notah Begay also plans to make an appearance.

Sessions will focus on leadership, healthy lifestyles, education, substance and alcohol abuse, culture, community development and other issues.

Students from Jemez and Taos pueblos were among those selected to participate.

The summit begins Sunday and will last through Thursday.

U.S. Attorney for New Mexico Kenneth Gonzales says he looks forward to hearing from the students at the summit on how officials can more effectively fight crime, create educational and job opportunities and keep young people safe and healthy.
