Truth Or Consequences Receives Federal Funding To Complete Wastewater Project

USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner was joined today by U.S. Senator Tom Udall to present a certificate of obligation in the amount of $5,230,000 to be used to complete the renovation of that communities wastewater treatment facility.

Just before presenting the certificate to T or C Mayor Steve Green, Brunner said, “Today’s celebration is not only about a construction project it’s a testament to the leadership of the city of Truth or Consequences for ensuring a safer, healthier, and sustainable future for people living in this community.”  Brunner added, “USDA Rural Development is proud to partner with the citizens of Truth or Consequences and on behalf of President Obama and our Congressional delegation, I commend your forward thinking because ultimately this investment will create jobs and expand business opportunities.”

Two years ago, Brunner presented a certificate of obligation in the amount of $4,491,945 to begin the renovation project.  Combined with the funding presented today the entire construction project will cost $9,722,345.

The funding was needed to; refurbish five buildings, upgrade the electrical system, install a new ultra violet disinfection system and a new aerobic digester basin, upgrade existing lift stations. Once all of this work is done it will eliminate the odor problem and bring the wastewater system into compliance and eliminate health and sanitary issues identified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
