By KRWG News
Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police arrested two men after they reported a bogus armed robbery at the fast food restaurant where they worked.
Thomas C. Pacheco, 30, of the 2800 block of east Idaho Avenue, and Angel A. Rodriguez-Segura, 21, of the 700 block of east Villamora Avenue, are charged with one count each of embezzlement and one count each of conspiracy.
At around 4 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, police were called to a report of an armed robbery at the Whataburger restaurant at 2460 N. Main St. Pacheco and Rodriguez-Segura told officers that a heavyset man with a handgun forced his way into the restaurant and stole money from the business.
Several police officers and detectives were dispatched to the scene and other officers began searching the immediate area for the alleged suspect.
But, through the course of their investigation, LCPD detectives learned that Pacheco and Rodriguez-Segura staged the incident to appear as an armed robbery and were in possession of the stolen cash.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges against the two are pending.
Pacheco and Rodriguez-Segura were transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000 each.
