BELEN, N.M. (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration says a small plane has crashed outside of Belen after striking power lines, and is not a long missing plane as initially reported.
FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsord said the single-engine Legacy 2000 plane struck power lines early Thursday morning 19 miles west of Socorro just after taking off from a Belen airport.
Lunsord said the plane is registered to an Albuquerque owner.
Lt. Robert McDonald, spokesman for New Mexico State Police, said two bodies have been recovered but no names have been released.
PNM says more than 120 homes are without power in the area.
Initial FAA reports said that the plane may have been a missing aircraft for years but officials said Thursday those early reporters were false.
