Two Dead, Seven Injured In Suspected DWI Crash

Two people are dead and seven more have life-threatening injuries after authorities say a suspected drunken driver crashed into their SUV as he was fleeing from deputies.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department says 36-year-old Steven Trujillo is facing two counts of vehicular homicide and seven counts of great bodily harm by vehicle in connection with the Sunday crash.

Capt. Justin Dunlap says Trujillo got into another crash Saturday and was spotted in a white Ford truck on Sunday. The deputy followed him with his emergency lights on, but the driver refused to stop.

Dunlap says the truck ran a red light and then struck the SUV containing seven children and two adults.

Seven people were thrown from the SUV. Authorities say it appears no one was wearing a seat belt.
