UPDATE: Black Forest Fire Starts On Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation

  Black Forest Fire – Cause Undetermined

Acreage of the BLACK FOREST FIRE has been updated to 25 acres. The start date of this fire was May 25, 2014.

The fire is located approximately 6.5 miles northeast of the Whitetail Community on the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation. It is burning in ponderosa pine and grass.

Yesterday’s initial attack forces were able to construct a fireline around the perimeter of the fire. Today, crews will be working to secure those handlines and they will begin mopping-up in the interior of the fire. 40 personnel  remain assigned to this incident. Agencies assigned to this fire include the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Mescalero Apache Tribe, USFS- Lincoln National Forest, and one private contractor.

No containment has been reported and there are no structures threatened.
