UPDATE: Doña Ana County Inmate Expected To Recover Following Apparent Suicide Attempt

  A 24-year-old female detainee at the Doña Ana County Detention Center jumped Wednesday night from a second-floor railing in a cellblock at the Doña Ana County Detention Center, landing headfirst on the concrete floor below.

   Officers responded immediately to the incident, which occurred 9:17 p.m. Laura Delhierro was transported with an officer escort by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center. She was later airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso.

   Delhierro suffered multiple injuries, including a broken nose, a broken elbow and multiple lacerations. She is in stable condition in the intensive-care unit of the hospital, but she is expected to recover from her injuries.

   Delhierro had been arrested July 5 by Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators after she allegedly stabbed her younger sister during an argument just after 2 a.m. at a home in the 300 block of San Benito Street in Berino.

Delhierro has 11 prior bookings on charges ranging from tampering with evidence to failure to comply with conditions of probationary release.
