UPDATE: Driver In Las Cruces Crash Died In The Hospital

Chris D. McDonald, the 69-year-old driver involved in Friday’s single-vehicle crash on south Valley Drive, was pronounced dead later that day at Memorial Medical Center.

At about 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, McDonald was driving south on Valley in a red Chevrolet Blazer when, it appears, he suffered some type of medical episode. His vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a chain link fence near a business just south of Boutz Road.

A passerby noticed the crashed vehicle and attempted to assist the sole occupant of the vehicle but McDonald was unconscious when police and firefighters arrived at the scene. McDonald was transported to MMC but died shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no significant property damage was reported. The crash forced the closure of a portion of south Valley Drive for a couple hours on Friday.
