Alamogordo- The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) began preliminary work this week to replace the US 54 Bridge between Tularosa and Alamogordo in Otero County. The estimated $4.9 million project will consist of the demolition of the existing bridge and construction of a new bridge at the same location. A temporary detour will be in place for the duration of the project. The work is estimated to take a year to complete, weather permitting.
During the project motorists can expect short delays between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Motorists are asked to watch for construction personnel working in the area, observe temporary lane closures, and reduce speed while work is taking place. Remember to please drive safely through construction zones.
