U.S. Deports Fugitive Wanted For Murder In Mexico
U.S. immigration authorities have turned over to Mexican officials a fugitive wanted in Mexico for murder and attempted murder.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers Friday escorted 32-year-old Humberto Lopez-Perez to the border at Laredo in South Texas where he was taken into custody by the Mexico Attorney General's office.
U.S. officials say Lopez-Perez had three previous deportations when he was convicted in October of illegally entering the United States. The customs agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations office in Houston then determined he had outstanding warrants in Mexico for homicide and attempted homicide.
David Jennings, a field office director in Houston, says the case is part of an expanded U.S. and Mexico cooperation to identify, arrest and repatriate Mexican fugitives who flee to the United States to avoid prosecution at home.
