VA Event To Help Homeless Silver City Veterans

SILVER CITY, NM -- The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) will be reaching out to help Silver City’s homeless veterans on July 26 at the Silver City VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, located at 1302 East 32nd Street.

 

Staff from the Albuquerque-based Health Care for Homeless Veteran (HCHV) Programs Team and the Community Based VA Clinic staff will have shaded structures set up in the Clinic parking lot to meet with veterans from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The Vet Center mobile unit will be present to provide information on readjustment counseling services.  Staff from the Albuquerque VA Regional Office, New Mexico Department of Veteran Services, and New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions will be present to verify military service, assist with disability claims, answer questions related to VA benefits, and assist with information on employment opportunities. 

 

“This outreach effort is included in our medical center’s synchronized plan to end homelessness among New Mexico Veterans,” said David Sena, HCHV Programs Coordinator.  “Our team will be present in Silver City, Farmington, and Artesia this summer to provide information on various homeless Veteran services, provide assistance in verifying Veteran status and enrollment with health care, provide non-perishable food, clothing, and toiletry kits, and other information."
