With help from Washington, Virgin America is getting two airport gates at Dallas Love Field.
The airline beat out Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines, which also coveted the gates.
Dallas City Manager A.C. Gonzalez said Monday that the U.S. Justice Department required American Airlines to sublease the gates to Virgin America.
American is surrendering the gates as part of a settlement of a government challenge to its merger with US Airways.
Even after Virgin got the federal government's support, Southwest kept lobbying for the gates at the city-owned airport.
