A Wait For Results On Bond D

By Vanessa Dabovich

Las Cruces, NM – Voting results for Bond D which is an allocation to fund capital improvements at colleges and universities remains undetermined.

The measure contains one hundred and fifty-five million dollars total with around twenty-eight point four million for capital improvement projects at NMSU and DACC. It would also provide five point six million dollars for phase three of the Gadsden campus of Dona Ana Community College. All of NMSU's branch campuses would be affected as well.

Secretary of State's Office unofficial numbers show the bond lacking just over twenty-four hundred votes for statewide passage. Vote certification has begun in around the state and final certification will be on November 23rd in Santa Fe. Educators are hoping the process will garner enough votes in favor of the bond to gain approval.

The four other bonds on the ballot received enough votes for passage. On Tuesday, voters approved funding for libraries and school books as well as improvements to senior facilities. Three constitutional amendments were also approved that will provide scholarships and property tax exemptions to veterans and eliminate degrading language from voter laws.
