The white-throated sparrow has been spotted in Silver City. The rare sighting was reported during the 31 Christmas Bird Counts in New Mexico, which includes parts of southwestern New Mexico
Silver City Count organizer Karen Beckenbach says in three previous years there were no sighting of the white-throated sparrow.
She says this year many private landowners are allowing birdwatcher to survey their land for the count.
The Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count continues through Jan. 6.
