Mesilla Valley Habitat was founded in 1987. It is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which was founded in 1976 with affiliates in all 50 states, and operates in over 90 countries. Over 600 homes have been built throughout New Mexico.

Located at 5340 McNutt Road, in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, HSA is a fully accredited, tuition free, public charter school for students in grades 7 – 12, including an evening program for adults.

  Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Ruben Zamora. In August he was appointed to the United Nations after serving as the Salvadoran Ambassador to the United States since April 2013. Ironically, 30 years earlier, he was prohibited from even entering the country. Prior to studying law at the University of El Salvador, he was in the seminary for a while; and later received a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Essex in England.

October 4, 2014 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra continues with part two of a two-part interview with Roman Catholic Bishop Emeritus of Las Cruces, the Most Reverend Ricardo Ramirez. He became the first Bishop of the Diocese of Las Cruces in 1982, and retired last year. On this segment he recalls growing up in Texas, and the time he spent in the seminary in Mexico. Ramirez says “he did not know he would become a Bishop, it is a service of love.”

Her guest is Roman Catholic Bishop Emeritus of Las Cruces, the Most Reverend Ricardo Ramirez. In 1982 he became the first Bishop of the Diocese of Las Cruces and retired last year. Although retired, he remains extremely busy. He was born in Bay City, Texas on September 12, 1936; and was ordained to the priesthood on December 10, 1966 in Houston, Texas. Ramirez is a member of the congregation of St. Basil, more commonly known as the Basilian Fathers.
