Senate Bill Limiting Campaign Contributions Clears Key Committee

Santa Fe, NM – A bill limiting campaign contributions to candidates in New Mexico has cleared a key legislative committee. The Senate Rules Committee Wednesday morning unanimously approved a measure that is a combination of several different proposals. Santa Fe, NM – The state legislature has killed a bill that would have allowed consumers to see how much brokers charge in the price of their health insurance policies. Domestic Partnership Bill Fails in the Senate

Santa Fe, NM – Supporters of domestic partnerships in New Mexico have been handed another loss. A bill that would extend to domestic partners, gay or straight, many of the same rights and responsibilities married couples have, was only briefly debated in the state Senate Thursday and then, once again, killed. House Passes Insurance Reform Bill

Las Cruces, NM – The New Mexico House of Representatives today approved an insurance reform measure backed by Governor Bill Richardson.

House Bill 111, which passed unanimously, requires insurance providers to spend at least 85% of the money collected from premiums on direct services over a three year period.

The bill is part Governor Bill Richardson's proposed ten-part health care package focusing on medical records, the consolidation of public coverage programs and insurance reform.

Las Cruces Public School students who meet admission criteria now have the choice of taking classes with New Mexico State University or Dona Ana Community College while still in high school.

The dual credit program has seen considerable growth during the past few years.

From last fall to this spring .16 percent growth at the community college .and a 64 percent increase at NMSU.
