Bingaman's Proposal for a National Renwable Electricity Standard Clears Major Hurdle

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico's Senior Senator Jeff Bingaman announced yesterday that his proposal to create a federal renewable energy electricity standard, or RES took a significant step forward in the Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Flooding Damages to 911 Call Center Causes Delays

Three Sisters anxiously await results of Beer and Wine Election

Las Cruces, NM – A trio of sisters in La Union is anxiously waiting for the results of Dona Ana County's beer and wine election early next month. They're the owners of La Union Station Restaurant in the small, ranching community, near the Texas/ New Mexico border. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, the sisters pioneered the movement to allow the sale of beer and wine at restaurants in unincorporated areas of the county.

New Study Claims Health Care Costs for New Mexicans are Skyrocketing

Las Cruces, NM – The Health Care for America Now Campaign along with New Mexico ACORN released a report earlier this week, claiming that consolidation in the private health insurance industry is creating higher premiums for patients and employers. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the report indicates that in this decade health care premiums in New Mexico have risen at almost five times the rate of individual income.

Alleged Border Patrol Impersonator to be Retried

Las Cruces, NM – David Ramos-Arenas, the alleged Border Patrol impersonator from Las Cruces will be retried-according to Dona Ana County Sheriff's officials.

His hearing in February was declared a mistrial after the jury deadlocked. Ramos-Arenas was accused of detaining a woman in Mesquite last year, while wearing the uniform of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent.

District Attorney Matthew Chandler of the Ninth Judicial District Attorneys Office, will be the prosecutor on the case scheduled for June 29th and 30th.

Honor Flight Benefit

Las Cruces – On Saturday, May 23, at 1:30pm, the Fountain Theatre in Mesilla will hold a benefit for the Honor Flight program. The program hopes to charter a plane later this year to take local veterans to see the World War II Memorial in Washington DC. The benefit will include screenings of "Soldiers of Honor", about the first local Honor Flight in October, 2008, and the documentary "The Conscientious Objector". Fred Martino spoke with the Mesilla Valley Film Society's PJ Waggaman about the event.
